Cherry has a warmth you can see change over time. Fresh from the lathe, it’s golden-red; with age, it darkens into copper and deep brown. The live edge keeps the rim soft and irregular, following the tree’s own line. No two are alike. Some edges dip low, others lift high — all of them carrying the shape of the wood as it grew.
The small bowls are simple, good for fruit or a handful of nuts. Medium and large pieces find their way to the table with salads, bread, or vegetables. The largest sizes carry more than food — they carry presence. That shifting, uneven rim brings movement, turning even a weekday meal into something that feels closer to the tree it came from.
These bowls start in Gill, Massachusetts, where we work with salvaged cherry logs — trees taken down by storm or cleared for space. The inside is sanded smooth and finished with a food-safe oil. Around the rim, the edge is left as it grew. Nothing added, nothing covered up — just the tree’s shape, kept intact, strong enough to use every day.
Cherry live edge bowls change as the years pass — darker in tone, fuller in character, always carrying both the tree’s edge and the maker’s hand.
